The work reflects on the subject of bibliographic and documentary surveys. It seeks to reach the state of the art on technical procedures for their adequate operationalization, clarifying them enough to facilitate their understanding and use.

To this end, it carries out a very comprehensive, but not exhaustive, bibliographic and documentary review of its critical literature, seeking to clarify its correct understanding and appropriate use.

It uses the criticaldialectic method as the logical basis of its investigation and the hypothetical-deductive method as the basis of its thought structure.

It argues that a well-conducted bibliographic and documentary survey is an excellent entry point into a research area, consisting of a complete map of its territory, pointing out and explaining its current state, its theories, its founding concepts and its gaps. .

It concludes that: the scientific research flowchart is systematic and flexible, admitting steps that can be operationalized separately or concomitantly, according to the researcher’s habits; This type of research is fundamental to the beginning of any scientific investigation; and, its quality is directly proportional to the level of specificity of the research object-problem, the researcher’s level of knowledge about the investigated object and his experience in operationalizing such methodologies.
