ABSTRACT – Madness is always cause for literary inspiration. We organised the chaos that we are based on the model of culture that hosts us. But it is so fragile and yet inexplicable this structure that sustains us, that in the breaking of one of our pillars the entire structure collapses, to what we know as madness. Queen. Maria, The Mad tells us the story of a queen of two countries and two aliases. In Portugal she has reigned as D. Maria the Pious, and died in Brazil as Queen. Maria, the Mad, this perhaps, can be the result of her two lives. The play shows us two women, the crazy and lucid, one which is daddys litle girl and one who becomes a woman by abdicating of her love. The wife and widow, the mother and the one who sees her son dead, the one that builds churches and the one who signs deaths: the ingratitude of a society that requires us to dehumanize towards a throne, and the loneliness of this chair.
