RESUMO – A loucura é desde sempre motivo de inspiração literária. Ordenamos o caos que somos, segundo o modelo da cultura que nos acolhe. Mas é tão frágil e ainda inexplicável essa estrutura que nos sustenta, que na quebra de um dos nossos pilares toda essa estrutura desaba, para o que conhecemos como a loucura. D. Maria, a Louca conta-nos a história de uma rainha de dois países e dois cognomes. Em Portugal onde reinou, D. Maria, a Piedosa, no Brasil onde morreu, D. Maria, a Louca, talvez porque também ela teve duas vidas. O espetáculo mostra-nos as duas mulheres, a lúcida e a louca, a que é menina do seu pai e a que se torna mulher ao abdicar do seu amor, a que é esposa e a que é viúva, a que é mãe e a que vê um filho morto, a que constrói igrejas e a que assina mortes: a ingratidão de uma sociedade que exige que nos desumanizemos em prol de um trono, e a solidão dessa cadeira.

ABSTRACT – Madness is always cause for literary inspiration. We organised the chaos that we are based on the model of culture that hosts us. But it is so fragile and yet inexplicable this structure that sustains us, that in the breaking of one of our pillars the entire structure collapses, to what we know as madness. Queen. Maria, The Mad tells us the story of a queen of two countries and two aliases. In Portugal she has reigned as D. Maria the Pious, and died in Brazil as Queen. Maria, the Mad, this perhaps, can be the result of her two lives. The play shows us two women, the crazy and lucid, one which is daddys litle girl and one who becomes a woman by abdicating of her love. The wife and widow, the mother and the one who sees her son dead, the one that builds churches and the one who signs deaths: the ingratitude of a society that requires us to dehumanize towards a throne, and the loneliness of this chair.
