Lucy Pepper moved from London to a Portuguese village in 1999 and, with no other foreigners nearby, she had to learn Portuguese and Portuguese habits as quickly as she could. Above all, she had to learn to love Portuguese food because, as far as she could see back then, there was nothing else to eat.
